CAPA at the American Cancer Society Walk for Asian Initiatives

NEW YORK, New York - The Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA) kicked-off the first event of the 28th Annual APA Heritage Festival season last Sunday, October 15, 2006. Participants braved the 8:30 am morning chill to meet at the corner of 68th Street & Lexington Avenue on the Upper East Side and walked toward Central Park to meet up with the American Cancer Society for Asian Initiatives Team for registration and group pictures. After the meet & greet, Team CAPA, led by Vice-President, Arlene Alegre, joined a million other men, women, children and teens of different cultural backgrounds and walked for a cure.

Inside Central Park, the 72nd Street Bandshell was decorated with pink balloons and pink ribbon quilts. Top 40 music was blasting through out to wake up sleepy walkers and put them in a fun mood to walk the five miles around the park; from 72nd Street to 110th Street and back. At 10am, the sun was out and the weather was beautiful. Team CAPA happily posed for a few photographs along the hiking trail. After a few more hours, with the walk successfully completed, the tired and hungry Team CAPA headed to Midtown Manhattan for a sumptuous Post-Walk Lunch Buffet at Todai Restaurant.
