CAPA: Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans


History
In 1979, the first Asian Pacific American Heritage Week was proclaimed by President Jimmy Carter. What ensued was the creation of the Coalition of Asian Pacific American Associations, dedicated to the following ideas:
  • Promoting cooperation and understanding among Americans of Asian Pacific descent and among their representative organizations
  • Fostering friendship among Americans of Asian Pacific descent and others in the community
  • Representing, advocating, and promoting the interests of Asian Pacific American communities
  • Fostering education and awareness of Asian Pacific American heritage

In 1994, the Coalition changed its name to the Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans to reflect the growth of the organization which is currently comprised of individuals and representatives of Asian Pacific American organizations.

CAPA celebrates the cultural richness and diversity of the Asian Pacific American community and its contributions to our community at large.

Who we are
Through the dedicated work of our committee members and officers, the Festival takes a life of its own. Once a year, officers and committee chairs are elected to preserve the tradition of bringing in new ideas and approaches for continuing the success of the Festival.
