At every Heritage Festival, organizations from all over the country are invited to take part in the event by showcasing their mission, materials or products at their tables or information booths. Presenters range from commercial to not-for-profits, social clubs to social services, political associations to artists groups, arts & crafts vendors to internet companies.

ABC LANGUAGE SERVICES is a language center which offers lessons in foreign languages as well as tutoring for children. Chinese is one of our specialties. We offer both Mandarin and Cantonese classes which may be taken in the home or at our center. Classes designed especially for Chinese Americans who already have some background in the language are also available. We offer the possibility to focus on precisely the kind of Chinese you wish to learn: whether it be mainland simplified characters and the pin-yin romanization system, or the traditional characters of Taiwan and the zhu-yin fu-hao system, or even the Mandarin taught as schools offer it in Singapore.

ASIA SOCIETY is America's leading institution dedicated to fostering understanding of Asia and communication between Americans and the peoples of Asia and the Pacific. ASIAN AMERICAN ARTS ALLIANCE is a not-for-profit arts service organization founded in 1983 to increase the support, recognition and appreciation of Asian American arts. The Arts Alliance strives to assist Asian American artists and their groups, and works to raise awareness of the diversity of Asian American arts and cultures. We provide information resources, networking and advocacy services, and professional assistance through publications, a website, technical assistance, public forums and workshops, and a resource library. ASIAN AMERICAN ADVENTURES CLUB is a subsidiary of Manhattan Travel, Inc., providing specialty travel for Asian Americans in the United States and around the world. We possess thirty years of travel industry experience and provide incentives and discounts for groups and special events. ASIAN AMERICAN FEDERATION OF NEW YORK (AAFNY) is a leadership organization that has a membership of 34 Asian Pacific American agencies that serve the greater metropolitan New York area. We offer technical assistance to community-based organizations and provide financial support to community service projects. The Federation also conducts public policy and needs assessment research such as our groundbreaking study on the lives of elderly Asian New Yorkers. ASIAN AMERICAN JOURNALISTS ASSOCIATION A national non-profit educational association, AAJA's mission is to encourage young Asian Americans to enter journalism, to work towards fair and accurate news coverage of Asian Americans, and to increase the number of Asian American journalists and news managers in the industry. Founded in 1981 in Los Angeles by Bill Sing and Tritia Toyota, we have grown to 1,900 members with 17 chapters. Our National Convention will be held in New York in August, 2000.

ASIAN AMERICAN LEGAL DEFENSE & EDUCATION FUND Celebrating its 25th year, AALDEF is the only non-profit organization on the East Coast that specifically addresses the legal needs of Asian Americans. Founded in 1974, AALDEF has been dedicated to protecting the legal rights of Asian Americans through impact litigation and advocacy, community education, and law student training. Current programs and issues include voting rights, anti-Asian violence, immigrants' rights, employer/labor rights and redress for Japanese Americans incarcerated during World War II. In addition, AALDEF has a year-round student internship program designed to encourage more Asian Americans to enter the legal profession and use their skills to serve the community's needs.

ASIAN AMERICAN OUTDOORS ORGANIZATION (AAOO) is a non-profit organization with chapters in New York and Boston. We offer a wide range of outdoor activities. Asian Outdoors is about trying new things. If you are a hiker, with the right clothing you can also enjoy winter on cross country skis. People who like rowboats should try canoeing or sailing. AO is not for everyone, but if you are inclined to the great outdoors, we want you to be part of AO. Other activities we offer are road biking, mountain biking, camping, and fishing. ASIAN AMERICAN WRITERS' WORKSHOP (AAWW) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to the creation, development, publication and dissemination of Asian American literature. We house the largest and most comprehensive bookstore of Asian American works, publish the Asian Pacific American Journal, Ten magazine and Asian American anthologies; present readings and performances, offer creative writing workshops, fellowships and awards; produce programs geared towards high school students and teachers, and present The Annual Asian American Literary Awards. ASIAN LIFENET Our mission is to educate New York's Asian community on the availability of mental health services. Our three objectives are: Provide public education, outreach, and anti-stigma campaigns to address Asian mental health issues through partnerships with Community-based organizations. We seek to address the most significant barriers, which prevent the City's growing Asian population from accessing critical treatment services. The Asian LifeNet offers toll-free and confidential information, referral and crisis intervention services for mental health and substance abuse problems. We have bilingual professionals and consultants who speak Cantonese, Korean and Mandarin. The Asian LifeNet operates on Monday to Friday, 9am to 10pm. Anyone can call for oneself or for a friend. APALA's main goal is to organize Asian Pacific workers into trade unions often struggling within the unions to change themselves to accomplish this. ASIAN PROFESSIONAL EXTENSION, INC. (APEX) is dedicated to the personal growth and educational development of Asian American youth by providing Asian American role models. APEX's core programs include the Mentoring Program, Tutoring Program, and P.S.1 Reading Program. These programs match elementary, junior high, and high school students with adult volunteers in one-on-one relationships with adult volunteers that can take root and flourish.
