Program I: Purely By Experiment

The Final Flicker
Directed by Jennifer Bae (US Premiere) 16mm, B&W;/Color, 8 min. An introverted woman, who becomes increasingly frustrated with her identity, finds "escape" by immersing herself in an alternate culture and identity.

A Man
Written/directed by Risa Izumi 16mm, B&W;/Color, 4min. This film tells a story of a man who has been seduced by his mother. What does he want? What does he want to be? What brings to him is simply a tragedy.

Ocularis
Written/directed by James Cho (NY Premiere) Beta SP, 8.5 min. James Cho used the polished designs and motion graphics to achieve shallowness and self-indulgence. Then he weaves these visuals with the contrived gibberish voice over to push the audience into a sense of alienation. Ocularis contains ideas of colonialism fiction,and the relationship of these concepts leads to an examination of the in-between space. Ustra Directed by Amitav Kaul. Video, 7 min. A "spontaneous visual narrative" about discovering the underlying spiritual subconscious within the chaotic, multi-culturally compressed environment of New York City, and/or is it New Delhi. "Ustra" is an on-the-fly, "live" visual/audio VJ mix that was spontaneously composed, within the seven minute duration of its soundtrack.

DOWN WITH DV: A JAM SESSION
Digital video continues to be the modus operandi for todays new filmmakers. Here's an opportunity to meet and exchange the latest info and techniques with other filmmakers who have worked in this medium. A must for anyone planning to shoot their documentary or narrative project in DV. Lead DV Jammers are Jade Wu, a Jerome Foundation documentary grantee, and Greg Pak, an award-winning filmmaker who will launch a one-day hands-on mystery DV film project.

Program II: Laughing Gals

Bed
Directed by Johanna Lee (World Premiere) 16mm, Color, 13 min. Starring Julliene Kim of Broadway’s Golden Child, and Sean Gullette and Ben Shenkman of the award-winning film, "Pi�", "Bed" is a comedy about love, anxiety and people who'll do anything to find themselves a good night's sleep.

Lady Jane
Directed by Ruby Flores. Video, 3 min. Seated in a quiet study hall, an Asian woman joins an African-American man and an Asian man as they diligently tend to their studies. Intrigued, the Asian man begins to speak to her in his native tongue, in hope of getting a date, only to discover a new truth about ethnic identity.

Mausi
Directed by Sarba Das. 16mm, Color , 10 min. How an old lady finds her way back to the beloved homeland, India in the midst of a secret drug smuggling scheme conceived by her family members that includes getting rid of herself?

Girl Meets Boy
Directed by Grace Lee 16mm, Color, 2 min. Girl meets boy. Girl beats boy.

2:00-3:00 THE EXCHANGE PLACE--MEET THE
DIRECTORS AND PRODUCERS
An opportunity for actors and crew personnel (and those who always wanted to know about filmmaking but didn’t know who to ask) to meet directors and producers with film and video narrative and documentary projects in development. Actors are encouraged to bring headshots and resumes for the individuals directors as well as a master casting binder compiled by The Workshop: Asian American Filmmakers Collaborative.

Program III: Playing Boys

Sweet or Spicy?
Produced, directed, and edited by Kip Fulbeck , 7:10 min, color, Seaweed Productions, Sound Design by Kevin Kelly, Digital Effects by Dan Lin Ever listen to Loveline? Well, here's an episode with a 24-year-old Korean American guy who's never been kissed. They're offering free concert tickets to any girl who'll come in and take a chance. The girls get their tickets, and "David" gets to pick one of them for his first smack. Trouble is no volunteers. Sweet of Spicy? explores Hapa and Asian American male sexuality in popular culture.

Uljhan
Directed by Tanuj Chopra. (New York Premiere) 16mm, 8 min. "Uljhan," in Hindi, means a twisted problem where no solution presents itself or a complicated situation with many tied up strands. Like its title suggests "Uljhan" is a film about a day in the lives of three friends who discover the dynamics of being Indian American after one of them goes through a dramatic episode.

The Uncertainty Principle
Directed by Ted Kim. 16mm, Color, 15 min. A dark comedy featuring three checabana shirts, two lovers looking for a sign, one dying man seeking redemption, and Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle.

POWER PROMOTION--ENSURING THE SUCCESS OF YOUR FILM
