There's nothing better than live music and dance to make an event even more exciting. Performers have ranged from the traditional to the comtemporary. From Taiko drums to hip-hop, from Chinese opera to modern Jazz. The performance program is what puts the "festive" in our festival!

The performance program, featuring live music and dance from the traditional to the contemporary, is what puts the “festive” in our festival! Enjoy the show on the main stage from 12pm to 6pm!

This year's line-up will include:

Ranjani (Indian folk dance) (12:00)
Director: Subhra Goswami
Ranjanee is dedicated to explore and integrate the many different culutural heritages of India. We teach Indian classical dance (odissi and Bharatnatyam)along with different folk dances ad creative dances (UDar Shankar style) , TAgore songs, classical music, folk songs, and various patriotic songs.

Gemma Bulos (Filipina singer) (12:30)
Gemma was born of native filipinos and has learned to navigate playfully through island tradition and American pop culture. A seasoned world traveller and an empathic storyteller, Gemma's music revels her wadering spirit and roving experiences. Her music melds her soulful nature with a carefree style of Rhythm and Blues that takes the listen on a musical journey through hope, pain and revelation.

Band 101 (Korean rock band) (1:00)
101 began as a collaboration between Woody Pak (guitar) and Hoon Lee (vocals) in 1997. With diverse musical backgrounds and tastes, the pair began writing music influenced by jazz, funk and world music, but strongly rooted in rock. With the additions of Mowg on bass, and Damien Bassman on drums, 101 has grown in dimension and is creating a stir in the New York music scene with music that has been described as driving, spiritual, passionate, eclectic and sophisticated. As a predominantly Asian rock band, 101 brings a unique sensibility, sound and look to their performances, which have included venues such as CB's Gallery, Caf� New Yorker, Venue, Shine, and Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center. 101 has also performed for numerous benefits including the Hands of Hope benefit concert for North Korean famine relief, and benefits for Second Generation Theater Productions and CAPA's Asian American Heritage Festival.

Radio Hula (Hawaiian hula dance) (1:30)
Radio Hula, founded in 1990, is a retail shop that offers all things Hawaiian and Pacific Islander in origin. With the growing interest in Hawaiian culture here in New York City, Radio Hula has also offered hula dance classes for the past 7 years. Hula 'auana (modern) is the popular style of dance that continues to not only romance and intrigue visitors to the Hawaiian Islands, but also homesick Hawaii islanders here in New York. Enjoy our hula students as they dance hula 'auana in the celebration of Asian Pacific Month!

P.I.C (mixed ethnicity hiphopunkfunkmamboska) (2:00)
P.I.C, always a party in their live performances each member adds his own influences from the world's of hip-hop, hardcore punk, 70's funk, Latin rhythms, and ska, resulting in a sound fondly referred to as HIPHOPUNKFUNKMAMBOSKA. P.I.C has been known to get bodies to bounce since it's inception on Manhattan's Lower East Side and look forward to mindless booty shaking in Union Square. They are thankful and glad to be a part of the CAPA festival this year.

Wendy Ip (alternative/pop singer/songwriter) (2:30)
"If you're looking for a fresh voice, stop here. Wendy is it." - Songwriter's Monthly. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, Wendy Ip now lives in New York City where she has wowed audiences with her passionate performances at Luna Lounge, Arlene Grocery, CB's Gallery, Hard Rock Cafe and other popular New York venues. Wendy has showcased at the Philadelphia Music Conference, NEMO, and the Oxygen Tank Tour. She has been compared to artists from Gwen Stefani to Elvis Costello. Wendy is currently working on a new album while continuing to play live.

COBU (Japanese Taiko drums) (3:00)
COBU is a special performance group that is aiming for the fusion art of Japanese Drum & Tap Dance. "COBU" means "Drum like Dancing, Dance like Druming" in Japanese. YAKO MIYAMOTO composed and choreographed our numbers. COBU performed at Lantern City-MNN (cableTV), Extravaganza Concert-World on TAP, Crazy Jam,Cherry Blossom Festival,etc.

Kevin So (pop/blues/folk singer/songwriter) (3:30)
Hailed as the "Amy Tan of the singer/songwriter world," So's original blend of pop, blues, and folk has garnered attention and praise from Richie Havens, Billy Bragg, Martin Sexton, Ellis Paul, Mary Lou Lord, David Wilcox, and most recently Keb' Mo'. So has been nominated 7 times for a Boston Music Award and has opened for some of the industry's best known acts including Havens, Joe Cocker, Randy Newman, Mary Lou Lord, Livingston Taylor, Ellis Paul, Martin Sexton, Chris Smither, Dar Williams, Vance Gilbert, and Moxy Fruvous. He was chosen in 1998 as one of the "best unsigned artists" by the internationally-broadcast program "Acoustic Cafe." He has also been invited for the third time to play the main stage at the world-renowned Kerrville Music Festival in Texas as well as such famed clubs as Buddy Guy's Legends in Chicago and The Bottom Line in New York City.

Knowa Lazarus (rapper/hip hop) (4:00)
A one-man arsenal of infinite rhyme skills, straight out of Queens, NY, Knowa Lazarus is a man who stands alone in this oversaturated world of Hip-Hop music. Through the usage of mind-boggling, hypnotic, original flows, a time perfected delivery, and remarkable lyrical content he possesses the uncanny ability to transport listeners into his world. His undeniable talent not only shatters the minds of listeners, but he is destined to shatter the glass-ceiling which exists inside the music industry and show the world that an Asian MC can go for his like no other.

Larissa Lam (Christian/Gospel singer/songwriter) (4:30)
This Southern California singer-songwriter combines her distinctive voice, introspective lyrics and well-crafted melodies to deliver an alternative blend of rock, pop, and soul. Larissa Lam recently completed her debut solo album with producer Jarrett Michaels, who previously worked with pop/R&B; star, Brandy. The album was released on Larissa's own independent label, LOG Records. Performing and songwriting since the age of 13, this UCLA graduate and former Chief Financial Officer of NSOUL Records has previously done vocal session work as well as recorded and toured nationally with the gospel/dance singing group Nitro Praise. She is currently touring and working on other music projects full-time.

Uri Sori (Korean trad'l percussion) (5:00)
URI SORI is an apprentice Korean percussion troupe performing soul-stirring traditional percussion patterns or "Samulnori" this group is comprised of Korean American youth, who have a desire to learn "Samulnori" and to feel a sense of connection to and pride in the contributions of Korean Americans to mainstream America. They have the good fortune to study with professional percussionists. "Samulnori" is not only a style of percussion but also includes a very specific pattern of mesmerizing dance, framed in a colorful traditional costume or "Hanbok". Additionally, the hat worn or "Sangmo" can have a 6' rice paper tether attached that the drummer twirls as he drums and dances! We welcome you to the colors, the movement, the music and all that blends into a harmony that summons the audience to participate in the joyous frenzy that is "Samulnori"!

Rudresh Mahanthappa Quartet (Indian jazz saxophone) (5:30)
The Rudresh Mahanthappa Quintet is one of the freshest bands on the New York Jazz scene today. Consisting of the best young talent that New York City has to offer, this band continues to turn heads with their groundbreaking sound and innovative vision. Their debut recording, The Preserver, clearly shows how this quartet is taking jazz in new directions at an unparalleled level of virtuosity. Mahanthappa's compositions push the boundaries of melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic convention as he draws from the rich traditions of nonwestern music. Listen as the Rudresh Mahanthappa Quartet takes jazz into the new millennium! "This alto player has a tone like iron and charges from 0 to 80 in about four seconds. He has been making his name playing tough, rhythmically complicated, challenging music, more and more, by playing with his own group." (highly recommended concert) -The New York Times
