If you believe in supporting your community, or if you want to help foster pride in culture and knowledge of history, or if you simply want to meet people, then you should volunteer with CAPA and the Asian Pacific American Heritage Fesitval. There are several ways to help out with the putting together the biggest Pan Asian outdoor event on the East Coast. Some of these options are listed below: Be a helper on the day of the festival. Help out with setting up and breaking down. Be a stage hand, a runner or assist the coordinators with some of the special programs. Watch a table or take surveys. All these tasks happen on festival day and we ask that you give us at least a 2-4 hour commitment.

Join a Committee. Throughout the year, various committees are set up to take charge of specific areas of planning and coordinating the fesitval. These committees usually meet once a month and members are assigned tasks that may include reseaarch, paperwork, phone calls, purchasing supplies, as well as planning. Following is a list of the committees and their function:

PUBLICITY - Promoting the festival with press releases, flyers, display ads and e-mailing.
BOOTHS - Collecting and organizing booth rental applications and fees.
BROCHURE - Designing and producing the souvenir program book.
SITE - Aqcuiring all necessary paperwork and permits, equipments rentals, and insurance.
PERFORMANCE - Selecting and coordinating the music and dance performers.
DEMONSTRATIONS - Coordinating the martial arts groups and crafts tables.
FUNDRAISING - Contacting and coordinating with the corporate sponsors.
OUTREACH - Reaching out to the community for participation.
CHILDREN'S PROGRAM - Planning and coordinating the children's activities.
THEME - Establsihing and incorporating the theme in the brochure and exhibit.

Be a Board Member. Board members attend the monthly general meetings which last for about one a half to two hours. At these meetings, we plan logistics, discuss relevant issues and set policy. And we also do a lot of socializing. The atmosphere is always open and friendly and we often go out to dinner as a group after the meetings.

If you would like to join our family and help put on this special event or if you just have some questions, just come to one of the meetings or drop us a line at 212-989-3610 or [email protected]
