Bea Hundal is a Broadcast Journalist who has produced and reported for BBC World, BBC World Service, and Associated Press Television News.
She got her start working in production with Good Morning America at WABC. After a brief stint at Al Jazeera International, she worked as a radio reporter and host for a popular local London-based station. Before becoming a professional broadcaster, she attended Rutgers University and was a host and field reporter for AVS, an entertainment show on cable TV in North America.
Currently living in New York City, her access and mobility extends internationally with citizenship to the UK and India. |

Michelle Yu is a sports anchor/reporter for Sports Net New York and covers everything NYC in MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL. Michelle began her sports journalism career in print, writing for Gannett Newspaper's 'The Journal News and Sports Illustrated For Kids magazine. In 2003, Michelle made the transition from print to television when she joined College Sports Television. She has also spent time as a sports reporter on Time Warner Cable's 'Sportstime' show in New Jersey. A Bronx native, Michelle co-authored her first novel China Dolls in 2007, and her second novel Young, Restless and Broke will be published in 2009. Michelle graduated from Manhattan College with a degree in communications and currently lives in Manhattan. |

Stand Up Comedian Air Tabigue puts the “air” in Hil-“AIR”-ious with his on-stage personality and comedy style. He has appeared on NBC, FOX and TFC and was former host of Asian America on PBS covering talented Asian-American artists in entertainment. In 2004, Airalso won the Eastern Division of the First Asian American Stand Up Comedy Competition held by Takeout Comedy. He has produced and hosted two successful Asian-themed comedy shows (Jammin Asian and CombinAsian) at the Laugh Lounge Comedy Club.
In addition, he also has emceed numerous events for the Filipino/Asian Community, some including: the NYC Asian/Pacific American Heritage Festival, AsianinNY's Moon Festival and Fashion Show, Asian American Donor Progam’s Laughs for Lives (San Fran), The Asian American Cultural Festival of Long Island and the 2011 NYC Philippine Independence Day Parade (in front of an overwhelming turnout of 100,000 Filipino-Americans). In 2011, TOFA-NY nominated Air for "Most Outstanding Filipino-American in Entertainment” in NY for his accomplishments. When Air’s not “standing” on stage, you can find him “running” in the park, training for the 2012 ING New York City Marathon with his running team: Team Takbo.

CeFaan Kim is a NY1 Reporter who covers the borough of Queens. During the "Christmas Blizzard" of 2010 his exclusive story about a woman who died while waiting for help to arrive forced the Bloomberg administration to admit the city's response to the storm had been inadequate. EMTs were delayed after getting stuck in unplowed streets, and it took neighbors and relatives 50 minutes to get through to a 911 emergency operator. In the summer of 2010 he extensively covered the damage caused by tornadoes that ripped through Queens and Brooklyn. In 2009 he reported for weeks from the epicenter of the H1N1/Swine Flu outbreak. Later that year he covered the assault trial of then-State Senator Hiram Monserrate. Before covering Queens, Kim worked in the political unit as an associate producer for "Inside City Hall." He produced the jail-cell interview of then-Transport Workers Union head Roger Toussaint, during the 2005 transit strike. In 2008 he traveled to Iowa and New Hampshire to field produce coverage of the presidential campaigns of former Senator Hillary Clinton, former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, and former Senator Barack Obama. |
Ti-Hua Chang

Award-winning journalist Ti-Hua Chang joined WNYW/Fox 5 in 2009 as a general assignment reporter from sister station WWOR/My9, where he served as a general assignment and investigative reporter since 2008. Previously, Chang worked at WCBS-TV where he served in the same capacity. Prior to that, he was a reporter with WNBC. On 9/11, he was the first reporter to inform the public on the number of causalities that day quoting Mayor Giuliani and city officials. Chang joined WNBC from WNYC-TV, where he was host of his own talk show, New York Hotline.
Before he began his on-air career, he was an investigative producer at ABC News. Chang is the recipient of numerous awards. In 1996, he won the prestigious Peabody Award for a series of reports he filed on accused drug-dealing murderers. In 2004, he won a New York Press Club award for his reports on a shooting at City Hall. He received an Edward R. Murrow Award in 2005 for a piece exposing police officers using a helicopter and high tech infra-red equipment to spy on private citizens. Chang is especially proud of discovering the four witnesses to the 1963 murder of Medgar Evers, which led to the reopening of that famous case. Chang has also won five Emmys; the Philadelphia, Denver and Detroit Press Association awards; and, the Associated Press and United Press International awards.
Very active in Asian-American community affairs, Chang was both a national and local New York Board member of the Asian-American Journalists Association. Chang also has been published in a number of magazines, including the Sunday New York Times and The Detroit News.

Kirby Asunto: The Access Broadway Contest where Kirby became the Regional and National Champion, that same year she became the Philippine Fiesta Grand Idol Signing Champion inSecaucus NJ. That began her being invited to numerous Filipino American Community Fundraisers in the NY NJ CT and DC area. Kirby says she enjoys performing pro bono at this fundraisers as she is giving back to her community not only here in America but benefiting her fellow Filipinos in the Philippines as well. Kirby has a big heart even at a tender age.
She was in the Final three of the NY Knick Kidzbop Sports Talent Jam at MSG in NYC. Last October 29, 2011Twenty Outstanding Filipinos in New York(TOFA), was featured atCarnegie Hall. Tiffany Ashley Viray, 15-year old, is a multi-talented singer, dancer, actress and model. Blazing the stages of the New York city area with their fiery brand of progressive rock, The Hsu-nami has been building a name and gaining fans since its inception in 2005 with an explosive live show and exceptional musicianship. An international renowned progressive rock band from the United States. The Hsu-nami, named after the frontman Jack Hsu, became known as the first “Progressive Erhu Rock” band in the world. The Hsu-nami integrates an amplified ”erhu”, a two-string spike fiddle used in Chinese classical and folk music, into an instrumental progressive rock sound. Their music is marked by virtuosic erhu melodies and shredding licks, in place of vocals, as intertwined by heavy guitar riffs, tasteful guitar solos, funky rhythms, and metal-driven rock drumming. Part of the new-fusion rock movement, the Hsu-nami redefines the 1960s and 1970s fusion rock sound.
Hsu-nami’s music was featured in the 2008 Summer Olympic in Beijing. The track “Rising of the Sun” was the theme music representing the Chinese Basketball team entrance theme.

Reni was born and raised in Japan and began training in the art of dance and theater at a very young age. Her big break came after she entered and won a talent search competition. She then released her first Japanese CD in 2006 produced by Takahiro Yamautsuri, who composed the music for one of the Pokemon movies.
In 2008, Reni relocated to New York City and hopes to bring this unique style to the United States. Having barely begun performing in America, since February 2009, Reni has quickly gained wide attention, and has been invited to perform in the most prominent animation conventions and other music events. Reni released her latest CD album "Sakura" in September 2009 and published her first photo book "Maid in NY" in March 2010. As her fan base increases, attention from the industry and Japan glows. In 2010, the National Broadcasting Television Station of Japan (NHK) made 2 documentaries on Reni's career in America and the impact of her performances on western audiences and the fashion industry.

He has collaborated with top jazz artists including Paquito D’Rivera, Christian McBride, Dafnis Prieto, and Henry Threadgill; and has worked with such diverse artists as Ray Charles, Barry White, Kanye West, Wynton Marsalis, Bjork, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Yoko Ono and Lila Downs. In 2008 Dana toured all over Southeast Asia as part of Jazz at Lincoln Center and the U.S. State Department-sponsored tour, The Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad. Since then he has been a smashing hit at numerous festivals in Europe, Asia and the US. In addition to touring, Dana is a prolific composer and arranger, having recently written and premiered IdEgo, a new work for an aerial dance company Project Bandaloop at the Orange County Performing Arts Center as well as an evening length work, Life After Dark, at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, New York. Dana was a featured guest music director and performer in Fela! on Broadway in 2010 and is the first ever Composer-In-Residence for The Museum of Chinese in America in New York City. Le Zhang

Le Zhang has performed on local Chinese television and recorded theme songs for well-known TV drama and comedy shows. She is a frequent featured performer in the high-voltage Shanghai jazz scene and has performed as lead singer at the Hilton Shanghai from 2000 to 2004. A scholarship student at the New England Conservatory of Music, and the winner of the Sir Roland Hanna Memorial Award for jazz performance at the Aaron Copland School of Music, Le Zhang studies with Theo Bleckmann, Dominique Eade, John McNeil, and Ran Blake. Le Zhang’s recent performances include the EMI Shanghai Jazz: Musical Seductions from Chinas Age of Decadence and her role as the soloist for Tan Duns Zen Shaolin. Equally at home as arranger and vocalist, she is currently active as a performer in both New York and Shanghai. Her arrangements of Chinese traditional music in a modern jazz context are capturing the attention of the American and Chinese public alike.

Soh Daiko was formed in 1979 at the New York Buddhist Church as the first taiko group on the east coast, taking as its name the ancient, pre-Buddhist characters meaning “peaceful, harmonious drums.” The name reflects the spirit of dedication and cooperation which enabled the group to flourish from its beginnings. Operating as a collective, the group received early instruction from many visiting American and Japanese taiko players, and has worked with Sensei Seiichi Tanaka of the San Francisco Taiko Dojo, taiko player and jazz musician Russel Baba, Reverend Ron Miyamura of the Chicago Taiko Group, Reverend Masao Kodani of Kinnara Taiko in Los Angeles, the Tachibana Dance Group of the New York Buddhist Church, and Kodo, the world-renowned taiko group from Sado Island, Japan.
Soh Daiko has received critical acclaim from The New York Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, and Dance Magazine, and has been featured on Public Television’s Sesame Street and Reading Rainbow, and National Public Radio’s All Things Considered. In the New York area, the group has performed at Carnegie Hall, the American Museum of Natural History, the Japan Society, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Brooklyn Museum, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. The group has also performed at the Smithsonian Institution’s Festival of American Folklife; the Walker Art Center, Minnesota; the Morikami Museum, Florida; the USA-JAPAN Taiko Festival, San Francisco and Berkeley; and in Puerto Rico and the United Kingdom. Founders May Cacal and Malia Scala created PDP in January 2007, their paths having crossed through a bit of serendipity and shared love of Polynesian dance. They first met in Tokyo in 2003 when May’s Sounds of Hawai’i tour group spent several weeks performing throughout Japan, collaborating with other Hawaiian dancers like Malia, who was the lead performer for Tokyo Disneyland‚ Polynesian Paradise show at the time. Both natives of Hawai'i, they connected over their similar background and lifelong passion for dancing.
Polynesian Dance Productions’ mission is to share the beauty, joy, and origins of authentic Polynesian dance with a diverse range of audiences in the U.S and abroad. The group seeks to honor and spread the knowledge of Polynesian culture through interactive shows and classes that embody the aloha spirit. All its dancers are classically trained in Tahitian and Hawaiian dance techniques, and have performed individually in professional shows for over 15 years.

"Yosakoi Dance Project - 10Tecomai" is a New York based performance troupe now in its 7th year of performing who's mission is to spread knowledge about Japanese Yosakoi dance everywhere. Yosakoi, the base of 10tecomai's dance performances, is a Japanese style of dance formed in the Kochi area of Japan in the 1950s. It is the fusion of traditional Japanese movements with modern contemporary styles and with influences from other cultures of the world. Through their performance, 10tecomai seeks to show the audience their interpretations of war, peace, love, hate, joy death and the wonder of life.

Rose Sigal-Ibsen: Calligrapher
Rose Sigal-Ibsen has practiced calligraphy for many years and won critical acclaim for her work. Born in Romania and migrating from Israel to the US, she worked as an enamelist after studying at FIT. In 1979 she began her study of Sumi ink at the KoHo School of Sumi-e in NY and later Chinese brushwork at the Zhejiang Academy in China. She has won Awards of Excellence from the Kampo Cultural Center and from the Manhattan Arts International magazine. She has exhibited widely, for example, in China at the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, in Bucharest at the Roumanian Cultural Foundation, and in the US at the Steinhardt Conservatory and the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC.
Kavita Vyas: The Art of Mehandi

Kavita Vyas practices the Art of Mehandi, the art of painting designs on hands and feet. Mehandi designs use animals and floral patterns, sometimes even musical instruments, taking hours to finish. It began over 100 years ago in India by the Muslims, mostly in Pakistan. It is also widely done by the Arab people. She learned this art form from the master Mrs. Saroj Oza, who created the cone method. Kavita loves Mehandi art because she can create new designs each time she paints. Kavita and her Mehandi art was covered on the 10 o'clock news, Channel 11.
Indian Mehandi art, the art of painting designs on hands and sometimes feet, began over 100 years ago by the Muslims, mostly in Pakistan. It is also widely done by the Arab people. This art form came about as a result of women whose hands are the only parts of their bodies not covered. To beautify themselves, women would use mehandi paste to create designs on their hands during celebrations especially during weddings. It is no longer limited to the Muslims, but also widely practiced by the Hindus. Mehandi designs use animals and floral, sometimes even musical instruments. There is no limitation to the contents of the design, and can be applied to both men and women. Mehandi is the name of a vegetation. Its leaves are dried, grounded into powder, then mixed with lemon juice, tea and eucalyptic oil, and made into a paste. Designs made with the paste are temporary and lasts for 2-3 weeks.

Ye Xun: Dough figurine master artist

Dough modeling is a traditional Chinese handicraft that has continued to develop for over 700 years. Mr. Ye Xun, born in Zhejiang, has combined the qualities of both his master teachers, the poetic sensibility of Master Zhao Kou Ming with the realistic representation of color and manner of Master Lang Shao An (his grandfather). His figures appear life-like with a sense of vitality in the scenes and characters of his work. His work include the famous mythological characters such as the Monkey King from "Journey to the West", the Eight Immortals and the Goddess of Mercy. He has also won numerous awards for his designs including First Place in the Zhejiang Provincial Competition for Best Design.

Jampa Youden: Tibetan Jewelry Designer and Folk Singer
|
Jampa Youden grew up in one of the many nomadic communities in Tibet, where the land is vast (larger than Texas and California together), streams are crystal clear, where there are herds of sheep, birds, meadows of fragrant flowers and medicinal plants, surrounded by snow capped mountains. He learned to sing from his grandfather. The songs are of nomadic life since 70% of the Tibetan population is nomadic. From a family of singers, he and his brothers are often invited to sing at special occasions, weddings and parties. At age thirty he escaped with family members to Nepal before coming to the United States. He thinks singing is like medicine. He says, "It is free to be happy." He tells of the Tibetan proverb, "When you are happy, you enjoy wine. When you are sad, you must tame your mind." He has also taught himself jewelry design. Taking his cue from traditional works he has brought this kind of design back in new materials, sizes and forms, sometimes using beads from Arizona.

Ming Liang Lu: Master Papercutter of Portraits
|
Ming Liang Lu began studying calligraphy with his father at the age of five. He also studied carving, sculpture and engraving under the tutelage of renowned Shanghai artists such as Zheng Chi Lai, Shu Xun Long and Wu Su Wei. In 1981 he was commissioned to replicate a miniature scale model of Qing Pu Dai Guan Garden with 796 stone sculptures, some as small as a grain of rice. His sculptures were exhibited in the US from 1980 to 1985 and received wide acclaim. A creation from this period, "Dawn", was enlarged into a public art piece over five meters tall and is now permanently installed in the Shanghai Hua Xin Garden. He been in the US for nineteen years and continues to receive awards at various art shows here.

Duong Trung: Fortune Teller

Duong Trung learned his trade from the elders of his family in Vietnam. He practices not only fortune telling but also the art of Feng Shui. Because of the occult nature of fortune telling, it is not a traditional practice to disclose the story of his personal and artistic development to the public. This practice, dating back to ancient times, is based on the five elements of metal, wood, water, fire and earth, as well as the eight trigrams of the Book of Change. The art of fortune telling is a metaphysical art with mythical and magical character. Its methods are seldom discussed openly. To practitioners, this is a "heaven’s secret" and its ways must not be disclosed. The tradition is disclosed strictly to disciples who are selected carefully based on their innate understanding into the nature of things.
Alchemists in the Middle Ages were regarded with suspicion and disdain. Today, through much scholarly research, they are now regarded seriously. Like alchemy then, fortune telling today may be regarded as a subculture with its own form of knowledge, methodology and practice which enables it to flourish within the confines of a dominant scientific tradition.
