New York, NY May 29 – The 35th Annual Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Press Conference will be held on Thursday, June 5th between 6-8pm at Fushimi located on 475 Driggs Ave, NYC. Executive director of CAPA, Gen and renowned Asian American photographer Corky Lee will discuss about the project, show details, with brief performances by the dancers. Light refreshments and special drinks will be served. Press conference is sponsored by AsianInNY.com, Bruce Cost Ginger Ale, ByeJoe, and Fushimi.

During Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, Corky Lee and the Utah Chapter ofOrganization of Chinese Americans (OCA) helped organize a group of Asian Americans to recreate the historic photograph celebrating the completion of the Transcontinental Railway.

The original image, while widely distributed, was inaccurate in that not a single Asian/Asian American was present despite the 12,000 Asian/Asian American workers who represented the overwhelming majority of the workforce that built the railroad.

“Where are your roots? Here are ours.” Inspired by Stories of Asian Americans, Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans invites you to come see our project Gen, a contemporary theater dance piece. The show will be a journey through history of Asian ancestors starting from the 1840s to today.

Gen, produced by Coalition of Asian Pacific Americans (CAPA) with generous support from volunteers, takes place June 12 - June 15th at 440 STUDIOS: 440 Lafayette Street, New York, NY. Purchase tickets at: www.capaonline.org. Media/Press who needs tickets to review the show, please RSVP [email protected] before June 9th.
